Hi, How Are You?

Another Austin landmark is going away. According to this story, the famous mural done by alt-songwriter Daniel Johnston, the "Hi, How Are You?" frog, is going away. The wall its on will be replaced by a picture window on the side of the new Baja Fresh franchise, there at the south end of the UT Drag.

This is a pretty memorable piece. I'm fairly sure it shows up in "Slacker", Rick Linklater's first indie hit, and I'm sure I've seen it in other films based here in Austin. It served as the album cover for one of Daniel Johnston's albums. According to the article, the new owner of the property thought it was just graffiti. How sad.
