Another Reason to Avoid Vista

I've no plans to get Windows Vista, and based on what I've been reading about it, I'll probably be avoiding any new computers that run it.  This analysis of the cost of implementing the onerous content protection schemes in Vista just cements my feelings and it makes me scared for the future of the open computer industry.  I think I really ought to look into moving my main working environment over to Linux or Mac OS X in 2007.

...although a small part of me wonders if one of the reasons that Apple hasn't shipped Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) yet is because they're having to implement the same stupid restrictions in their OS.  I already don't use the iTunes store because of content protection (viva eMusic!), but I do notice my old Mac Mini struggling to show some full screen content on my 720p HDTV.

James Brown is Dead

This was one of my favorite clips that we would show from time to time on The Show With No Name. It's James Brown interviewed in the mid-80s by Sonya on CNN; he mostly responds with song lyrics, screams into the microphone, and just seems very off kilter. It's good stuff.

(By the way, if you've not heard the news, here's L.A. Style's announcement of the event from 15 years ago.)
