Tetris Needs What?!?!
I just saw a link to the new Tetris Zone game for Windows, and the system requirements threw me for a major loop:
  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
  • 512MB RAM
  • 64MB Video Card
  • OpenGL 1.4 or Better
  • 65MB Disk Space
You need half-a-gig of RAM to run Tetris? That's over 32,000 times the amount of memory that came on the original Game Boy. I guess color takes up a lot of space. :)

That really is a silly amount of memory. My toaster should be able to run Tetris!

A triumph of software engineering!

(Note: XP lists 128mb as a lower limit, but I've got 2000 on a machine at home with 256mb and it swaps like a fiend when I actually try to do something with it.)

Oh! I've ment to ask you: I'm about halfway through a bachelor's in CS, and I'm looking for a project to get involved in this summer (GPL, or whatever) to sharpen up my coding skills - Have you run into anything that needs people?

Well, I'm very interested in the DirectFB, FusionSound, and LiTE projects at directfb.org. Very interesting code for doing fast graphics.
