Electoral Vote Mapping

As the 2000 election showed, the most important votes in the presidential election are the electoral votes, which get doled out to states based on the number of representatives and senators they have in Congress. http://www.electoral-vote.com/ is a web site that provides a visualization of how the polling in each state is going. As of today, it's showing Kerry winning the national race with 285 votes to Bush's 242, but it's also showing about 110 votes coming from states where the lead of either candidate is very small -- these are the battleground states where most of the campaign resources are being spent, with Ohio and Florida looking the most strategic due to their high vote counts and the closeness of the races there.
